CONCAVEX
As we journey through nature, we delve into our inner Kafka metamorphosis, embraced by its dynamic language that echoes a range of emotions. Amidst this exploration, we face the timeless quest for purpose and connection, revealing the deep-seated yearning for belonging within us.
-
It explores an abstract yet conceptual genre. The aim is to create a immersive journey through sound and visuals in an emotional and hypnotic manner. The tone is mysterious, and metaphorical while geometric lines and fluidity defines the style of the entire video.

This project originates from the interaction of four main materials: metal , plastic , glass and liquid.
Through the use of these materials, we experimented with the concavity and convexity of forms interacting in space. The liquidity allowed us to create a dynamic interaction between the forms, blending everything into a cohesive unit. We chose these different materials to create a visual and textural contrast within the video. Metal evokes staticity, but at the same time, it is malleable and modifiable; glass and plastic represent transparency; while the liquid embodies the metamorphosis and fluidity of the perspectives with which we view life. -
This project embodies both conceptually and visually the essence of blending and experimentation. Through experimentation and chance, we've developed a uniform technique derived from the combination of various techniques.
Throughout this project, we've explored material contrasts, optical-light contrasts, and geometric contrasts. We've played with lighting, the material context between plastic, metal, and liquid, and the 3D scanning of objects through Polycam.
Additionally, the final editing phase in After Effects allowed us to ensure coherence in our project through cutting, interaction with sound, and the application of three effects: Colorama, CC Vector Blur, and CC Flo Motion. -
Our project combines various visuals that come to life through experimentation with different materials. For the creation of our video, we drew inspiration from numerous works, allowing us to create coherence and integrate the various techniques used.
We found inspiration in Man Ray's work¹⁰, particularly in his suggestive use of the hand element. Lefcourt's¹¹ innovative approach with the 3D scanner influenced our technological choices, while Julius Weiland's¹² glass sculptures guided us in manipulating transparent materials.
The fluidity of Zaha Hadid's¹³ forms inspired the incorporation of liquidity into our project, while László Moholy-Nagy's¹⁴ use of negatives influenced our visual representation techniques and the use of plastic materials. Lygia Clark's¹⁵ metal sculptures directed our use of metals, while Isamu Noguchi's¹⁶exploration of concave and convex forms enriched our understanding of spatial dimensions.
We also examined the anatomy of the human retina¹⁷ to create visually interesting effects with an anatomical touch, and André Kertész's¹⁸ use of distortion in his photographs played a fundamental role in our visual experimentation. -
For our project, we chose the track "Lollypop Man" by Union Jack, from the 1995 album "There Will Be No Armageddon," a classic of the trance genre. We selected this piece for its distinctive sound components: hypnotic atmosphere, deep bass lines, ethereal melodies, rhythmic pulses, and metallic and liquid sound textures.
From a technical perspective, the track was fundamental for the cutting and editing of the video. It defined the rhythm, progressive build, melodic breakdowns, epic crescendos, and uplifting atmosphere, contributing to a coherent and immersive audiovisual experience.
HOW DO YOU PERCEIVE THE WORLD?

CONCAVEX delves deep into the portrayal of multifaceted perspectives using concave and convex shapes, mirroring the intricacies of our reality.
By employing these shapes as symbolic elements, it explores their interplay and duality, shedding light on how our perception of the world is influenced by various perspectives.
CONCAVEX embodies a fusion of tangible real-world imagery and abstract representation, crafting a narrative that transcends conventional boundaries. -
Our DNA can outline our biological characteristics, but our worldview extends far beyond.
Our perception of existence is a dance between the singular curvature of our inner gaze and the multitude of external perspectives that embrace us.
In this symphony of convexity and concavity, we find the very fabric of our existence, an intricate intertwining of visions and intertwined realities.Only by uniting our personal standpoint with the shared essence of the surrounding world can we truly grasp our nature and the flow of the universe around us.

"CONCAVEX" is a neologism born from the conjunction of the terms "concave" and "convex".
These two terms are the fulcrum and the symbolic-conceptual soul of this project. -
The Concavex logo draws inspiration from the geometric shapes of concavity and convexity. This design is inspired by the album cover "Selected Ambient Works 85-92" by Aphex Twin, resulting in a minimalist, futuristic, and iconic logo. The typeface used for the creation of the Concavex logo is "Hofmann" by Nguyen Gobber, created in 2020. This font represents an experimental exploration of the possibilities and limits in creating a typeface using Hofmann's design tool.

CONCAVEX is the journey into the abyss of perception, a bold exploration of the depths of human existence. In this abstract odyssey, we venture beyond the surface of things, beyond ephemeral appearances, to unveil the myriad truths hidden in the folds of time and space.
Through concave and convex forms, CONCAVEX traces the path of our perceptions, illuminating the intricate depths of reality itself. Their interplay is a symbiosis of interactions and dualities, a cosmic harmony where light and shadow merge.
Concave and convex become symbols, metaphors for a faceted and mutable reality. They delve into the depths of our consciousness, revealing how our perspectives of the world are shaped by a myriad of lenses.
CONCAVEX is a sensory and intellectual experience, an immersion into the depths of the human soul. Through a blend of real-world and abstract imagery, we transform abstract concepts into tangible forms, giving rise to a new language.
In CONCAVEX, we break conventional patterns and embrace the complexity of our existence. Beyond the surface, beyond the limits of perception, we find the true essence of life itself.
